NEW CONSTRUCTION - Laredo Courthouse, Texas

When job coordination and execution, security and access issues, and poor user-defined specifications come together in a single project, MCC Construction Corporation has the expertise to act on these issues and ensure a successful outcome. The General Services Administration has called MCC "Class A professionals," and MCC's Interior Space Alterations (ISA) work at the 6th District Courtroom in Laredo, Texas demonstrates this professionalism far better than words alone can describe.

The ISA project, which took only 8 months to complete, converted an undeveloped second floor shell space into a state-of-the-art courtroom complete with Judge's Chambers, a break area, jury room, and a prisoner holding cell. Definable features of the work included new walls, wall coverings, architectural paneling, millwork, doors and frames. The quality of work on this project was excellent, and the GSA described the completed project as "beautiful, prestigious, and very attractive."

New state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical systems including automated HVAC, dimming, video conferencing, fire protection, smoke removal, security, motorized projection equipment, and humidity control were installed. The audio visual system and the motorized blackout shades are all managed via an extremely user friendly touch screen control panel.

MCC and its Government partners (e.g., US Courts and Marshall Representatives) overcame several obstacles during the successful completion of the project. Much of the original design required modification to meet the customer's needs and the work was done during nights and weekends, allowing the customer to conduct business as usual during the day.

The job included several challenges, such as determining that the materials specified in approximately 50% of the plans were unusable because of the need to match existing materials and designs. This meant that all new construction materials had to be selected, specified and ordered.

Another challenge was meeting security requirements of an operational Federal facility. MCC worked closely with the US Courts and the US Marshall Representatives to satisfy stringent requirements already in place to ensure the security of the facility.

MCC took the challenges in stride and delivered a courthouse that both the customer and MCC are proud of and that will serve the city of Laredo for years to come.
